Alan Riches was one of the most brilliant minded individuals I’ve ever met. . I consider myself very lucky to have met him a few years ago right before he was about to go on another tour with one of his bands. I was even luckier when He and his Wife Erin decided to move out my neck of the woods in Oshawa. We started working together full time and quickly discovered how many people we knew in common as well as how many times over the last 15 years we had crossed paths or probably already met and didn’t even know it. I was constantly amazed by the amount of knowledge Alan had not only in music but many other subjects and facets of life. When Alan joined Perfect Gentlemen to play drums he complained that he sucked and was washed up. But after twenty minutes of killing it at our first jam Mike, Slade and I looked at each other and quickly agreed we needed to get our chops up big time to keep up with him cause he just kicked our ass. You had to constantly be on your toes as you never knew what he was gonna do, he played the same song a different way each time and each time it was just as kick ass as the time before. I’ll be forever grateful for this as it made me that much of a better player as well as song writer. This track Kings Assassins was only the second time Alan had played the song. Fortunately he had the room mic’d up for drums that day and hit record when we started jamming. We did our best to keep the drums true to the way he had left them and added our parts on top. He probably would say his track was no good or hated it but as far as I’m concerned it’s perfect just the way it is. I hope this can bring some smiles to those that miss him.
Alan you ruled my friend, you will be forever missed.
